The long run (late post)

I wasn’t sure if I should go for a long run today because of my right leg. I am just getting back to running after being injured and I wanted to take it slow. The weather was gloomy with drizzles of rain in the forecast. The temperature was in the mid-60s making it ideal for running. I laced up my brooks, stretched many times, and hit the paths. The Busse woods glowed with green and purple plants along tall trees. My goal fluctuated as I tried to listen to my body. I wanted to push for 12 miles as that was the targeted mileage on my training schedule, but I didn’t want to make my injury worse. Today I ran 11.77 miles, and it was tough but fun. I am not used to running that far but it was good to push myself to see how I could handle the distance. I feel more prepared for the Chicago half marathon than I did a few weeks ago. Though, I must remember that races tend to be much more intense at the start than they are in my training. So, I need to stay focused on my game, not others!

GG#4 felt good, but it didn’t last. I have been changing my stretching and preparations for running. I have started to increase my stretch routine and then go for a mile walk. The issue is I take a hit before I do my routine. By the time I start the run the hit either settles in or I feel nothing at all. Today I felt a slight head high but not for long. I would say I didn’t feel anything by the 3rd mile. GG#4 kept my mind focused but calm. I did not feel any anxiety or dry mouth. I did feel a tiny bit of pain in my legs but that was because of the run itself. My right knee and right calf felt a little tight but otherwise pretty good.
