We are one day away from summer and the heat continues to rise. I expect my running to get harder as the sun gets warmer. I headed to Busse Woods hoping to put some work in when I asked myself, should I run indoors or outdoors? It seems like a simple answer, but it depends on a few factors. What you are training for, what can your body handle, and the weather? Running outside with temperatures in the 90s can be dangerous whereas indoors is a controlled environment. Running outdoors, I believe, gets you ready for different terrains. A treadmill can keep a steady pace or keep you cool when it’s 98 outside. I am starting to see the benefit of both but today I took a chance and ran outside. This was a great idea. I was able to hit my goal of running 3.1 miles and it was fun. Gelato kicked in at the first mile giving me a great head high, but it didn’t help me with pain. I felt soreness in my lower left back and in my upper right thigh. I felt dry mouth for most of the run, but this could be from the wind. Despite all of that, I enjoy my time in the woods, and I hope to have similar fun runs.
