Poor plan
I told myself “Go for a long run it’ll be easy. You went 5 miles the other day, this should be a piece of cake.” I was wrong. I woke up in the morning having stomach pains but when I saw the weather, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. The forecast was cloudy with some showers and low 60s in the morning with a high of 75. So, I laced my Brooks, stretched my legs, took a hit, and went to Busse Woods with a poor plan.
It has been some time since I have been in the woods on a Saturday and forgot the paths were packed with runners. This intimidated me as my pace continues to be slow and my weight has always made me shy. This all got into my head as runners passed me and the pain in my upper thigh felt sore. Today I ran 3.80 miles, and it was good but frustrating. I really wanted to go at least 8 miles, which I know I can, but I didn’t prepare my mind for it. I took off running too quickly and should have built up to it. Additionally, I had acid reflux causing me to change my breathing. I am hoping I can rest my leg and go for a long run tomorrow.
Gelato was great! I felt a head high a mile into the run making me focus on my legs and posture. I still thought about the pain but not as much. At about mile 3 my pace felt like it picked up and I glided along. I finally felt in sync with my body, and this felt amazing. I am not sure if this was Gelato or exercise. Either way, it was fantastic. Also, I did not feel any dry mouth or anxiety.
