Out of GAS
I battled my way up the paths of Busse woods as the sun hid behind the trees. The air was chilly but cooling on the lungs. “Keep going!” I said to myself pushing to improve my pace. Today the goal was to run a 5k/8k at a fast pace. I had a hard time maintaining a fast speed. I felt like I was out of gas after a mile and a half. I can’t pinpoint the errors or mistakes, but I have a few in mind. First, new territory. I have never tried this type of training before, and it takes some time to get used to. Previously when I practiced, I took it slow, but now that I have a half marathon on my mind, I feel I need to push harder to slow down. I know that doesn’t make sense, but that is just my current mindset. Second, I am nervous about tomorrow. I have a 10-mile run I want to complete but that will be the farthest I have ever gone. I am getting too much into my head and psyching myself out. I remember telling myself “Don’t forget you have 10 miles tomorrow!” which made me slow down. Third, I started a new strain today.
This is a good thing but made my mind race. Today I ran 2.13 miles and even though it was tough, it was also amazing. Running through the forest and feeling the cool air as it pushed my legs made me smile.
GG#4 is a favorite of mine. From my previous experiences, I remember it helped with focus and pain. That is what I felt today. I did feel a body high, but my mind wasn’t as calm as I would have liked. The high kicked in quickly and lasted well after the run.
“Smile you got this.”
