Heating up

The official start of summer is just two days away and the heat is already sizzling. The temperatures got into the high 80s making the air hot. The sun baked anyone brave enough to venture outside. This, as you can imagine, was not a good environment for running. But! Early in the evening, cool breezes gave me hope. So, I laced up runners, put on my shades, and hit the paths. Today I ran 2.3 miles, and it was hot! I wanted to run further but the gust worked against me. I thought the headwind would cool me off, but it slowed me down and gave me dry mouth.

My training has shifted now that my first Half Marathon is over. I have taken the time to focus on consistency and posture, but I am eager to improve my pace. Currently, I have an achy upper right thigh and my knees feel tight and sore. This has been the most active summer I have had in years, and I have never run this much before. I should’ve expected different pains, but I was still not ready.

Gelato was amazing! I felt a great head high about a mile in, which took the focus off the heat and on my posture. I felt happy and euphoric but motivated. The heat, wind, and lack of hydration could have caused the dry mouth, but it could also have been from Gelato. Additionally, I did not feel any anxiety.
