Feeling the heat
The sizzling sun burnt anyone who stepped outside. Temperatures reached the high 90s with no clouds in the sky. This made it too hot to run outside. With the Chicago Half Marathon just two days away, my focus is to prepare my legs and to relax, not to get fried in the sun. I am not sure I “feel” ready for the race as I think back on my training. Mentally I am worried about the start of the race as it tends to move quickly. As the race progresses you settle into your normal pace and coast along. During my training, I started off fast but ended up burning out quickly. This made it harder to finish my runs because I felt tired and stopped. And if you have ever run long distances before, stopping and starting is the hardest thing to do.
Today I ran 3.1 miles on a treadmill, and it was great. I was able to take my time to practice my posture and my breathing. The gym was hot, with almost no ventilation making it hard to concentrate on running. I hoped GG#4 would have helped me forget the heat but it didn’t. My mind was focused but I am not sure if that was the runner’s high or the weed. I did feel a little pain in my right knee, but I felt no dry mouth or anxiety.
“Take your time and enjoy the run.”
